• Having an effective stent design for bifurcation stenting is one part of the equation. The other is having an effective technique. The SUPRA technique was developed by Drs. Koch, De Winter, and their colleagues at the Academic Medical Center, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

A wire is inserted into position in the main vessel	A second wire is inserted into position in the side branch	The lesion in the side branch is dilated with a balloon
The balloon is deflated and removed	The R stent is deployed in the main vessel, jailing the wire	The delivery system is deflated and retracted
A third wire is inserted into the side branch through the struts	The second wire is removed	A balloon opens the stent cell leading to the side branch

• Provisional stenting of the side branch ostium is permitted if absolutely necessary; however, the aim is an optimal functional result in the side branch, not necessarily a pristine angiographic appearance.
